Salem Plaza
In a series of studies for the town of Salem, Indiana, the folk-art tradition of barn quilting served as a catalyst for tactical interventions. The result was Barn Quilt Urbanism, which uses the patterns and colors of rural iconography to create large-scale and habitable artworks. A kit of parts comprised of custom, modular furniture augments two-dimensional murals with three-dimensional elements. This work was supported by Indiana University’s Center for Rural Engagement and ServeDesign Center.
