6th Street Arts Alley

6th Street Arts Alley synthesizes public space and public art by developing a lexicon of design strategies based on the idea that public art is uniquely positioned to repair urban fabric. This area of downtown Columbus is home to a burgeoning arts and design scene with several creative businesses and community organizations within a one-block radius. Our proposal, realized in collaboration with the Columbus Area Arts Council, transforms the area between Washington and Franklin Streets into a flexible space for relaxation, informal gathering, and events. Phase 1 includes a 10,000 sf ground mural installed by LAA Office along with student and community volunteers, a new mural on the south façade of the historic Odd Fellows building by artist Nick Abstract, a custom suite of modular seating, and moveable planters.
